Geraldine High School Gym Refurbishment and Extension
NB Architects was engaged to oversee the refurbishment and extension of Geraldine High School’s existing gymnasium, aiming to enhance its functionality and capacity to meet modern sporting and educational needs. The project involved refitting the current gym facility and extending it to accommodate a full-sized basketball court, creating a versatile space for sports and community activities.
The design incorporated several key features, including a new viewing platform and designated weights and fitness area, promoting health and wellness among students. Additionally, the project included the construction of completely new changing rooms and modern teaching spaces, supporting the broader educational and extracurricular programs.
A notable aspect of the design was the extensive use of the school’s colors, which fostered a strong sense of school pride and identity throughout the facilities. The project was carefully planned to ensure a coherent and inspiring environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Unfortunately, due to the disruptions caused by COVID-19, the project was put on hold, with the school opting to pursue a design-build approach once conditions improve. Nonetheless, the initial design framework and vision set a solid foundation for future development, aligning with the school’s goals of creating a dynamic and inclusive sports and education facility.
