Project Overview
Temuka
- Driveway
- Landscape Architecture
This new home had to be built at a specific level above a nearby waterway to meet flood risk requirements. This created a significant challenge at the front of the property, where there was limited space to transition the driveway up to the garage while maintaining practical parking and access to the additional garage.
A driveway that changes from flat to steep too quickly can create problems for vehicles, particularly where the transition risks scraping or catching the underside of a car. The solution was to carefully coordinate the driveway levels with the garden retaining walls, planting and steps, using the landscape to absorb and manage the changes in height.
The result is a home that feels effortless. The levels, retaining walls and steps work together naturally to resolve the levels without revealing that it was ever a problem. What could have been an ugly steep driveway became a seamless part of the home’s architecture and landscape.
