At NB Architects, we are thrilled to announce that the Timaru District Council has approved our design to modernise the historic Theatre Royal. This project represents a significant milestone not only for our firm but also for the cultural landscape of Timaru. Our approach to this project has been deeply rooted in our firm’s ethos: “We Listen.”

Understanding the unique needs of those who will use the space, we conducted extensive interviews with various groups and individuals involved in the theatre. This collaborative process ensured that our design would be thoroughly fit for purpose, catering to the diverse performances and events the theatre will host. By integrating feedback directly into our planning and design process, we have crafted a space that truly reflects the needs and aspirations of the community.

The acceptance of this design by the Timaru District Council is not just a nod to the future of the Theatre Royal but also a testament to the power of listening and collaboration in architectural design. We are excited to move forward with this project and confident that the revitalised Theatre Royal will continue to be a beacon of culture and community engagement in Timaru for many years.
